Editor's Note: The following bio information was submitted by Terri Carmody:

I have served on the Board of Education for the last six years. I have been committed to providing the students of Southington with a quality education.

I have also served as chairman of Curriculum and Instruction for six years. We have worked diligently to implement curriculum changes that align with the new common core standards being mandated by the state. These changes will provide our students with the skills to develop higher order thinking skills, how to communicate in a clear, coherent manner both verbally and in the written form. All of this aimed at preparing our students with 21st century skills in order to compete in a global economy.

As a former teacher I believe my experience allows me to bring a perspective to the BOE that will enhance and promote these initiatives.

The BOE has done our best to keep class size down, enforce zero tolerance with drugs, bullying ,alcohol and violence in our schools. We are also consistently developing methods aimed at securing safety in our schools. We have held town wide safety forums to keep an open dialog the parents.

I am a dedicated member of the BOE and will continue to work hard to always make the needs of our students a priority.
