Everything You Need to Know About Southington's Municipal Election

As we look ahead to the Nov. 5 elections, Southington Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about each race in town. Here's what you need to know in terms of voting districts, referendum questions, voting hours, sample ballot, candidates and more.

POLL INFORMATION
It can be a challenge to work voting into a packed day, but with polls opening at 6 a.m. and remaining open for voters throughout the day until 8 p.m., there's plenty of opportunity.

The polls will remain opened for anyone who is in line to vote as of 8 p.m., so if you are able to get there on time, get out and vote. Take a look below to find out exactly where.

VOTING DISTRICTS
Southington has a total of 11 voting districts in town, divided to separate polls and keep them moving to get voters in and out quickly at a location near their home. Districts are as follows:

1. South End Elementary School
2. Kennedy Middle School
3. Derynoski Elementary School
4. Hatton Elementary School
5. Flanders Elementary School
6. DePaolo Middle School
7. Kelley Elementary School
8. Thalberg Elementary School
9. Tabernacle Church
10. Plantsville Elementary School
11. Strong Elementary School

REFERENDUM QUESTIONS
There are three referendum questions on this year's ballot, each being a "yes" or "no" answer. The questions are as follows.

1) Shall Section 601 of the Southington Town Charter be amended to change the police and fire commissions to be advisory boards and have the chiefs hired by and report to the town manager?

2) Shall Section 708 and 738 of the Southington Town Charter be amended to increase the amount of expenditures for purchases and contracts going to bid from $10,000 and $5,000 respectively to $25,000?

3) Shall Section 733 of the Southington Town Charter be amended to allow the town manager to authorize transfers within an office, department or agencies budget up to $1,000 into and out of line items within a fiscal year?
