North Central Regional Mental Health Board Partners with Groupon Grassroots

North Central Regional Mental Health Board to Host a Forum Regarding Veterans Health

North Central Regional Mental Health Board (NCRMHB) was founded in 1974 and is a not-for-profit organization that makes sure that people in this region who suffer from mental health or addiction issues are actively involved in determining and monitoring the kind of services they receive from the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Staff and volunteer members act as watchdogs and advocates for improving mental health services in our region. They have teamed up with Groupon Grassroots which is the philanthropic arm of Groupon to fund a project that impacts our community!

If 50 people donate $10 through Groupon (http://www.groupon.com/deals/north-central-regional-health-board), then NCRMHB will take your tax deductible donation and use it in it’s entirely to fund a conference that we hope will help hundreds if not thousands of the dedicated Veterans who have unselfishly protected our nation. Unfortunately only 39% of this population seeks out the help they need when they return from war either because of stigma or because they don’t know where to turn. These veterans can experience a number of debilitating mental-health issues, including depression, addiction to alcohol or substances, suicide attempts, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Strategies and skills that were necessary for survival in battle often hold them back from acknowledging and seeking help, hindering the readjustment to civilian and family life. In addition to the emotional adjustment issues, returning veterans struggle with finding work, procuring housing, and obtaining income and healthcare benefits. The event will showcase resources and options available for local veterans who have returned home from deployment, including mental-health services, readjustment counseling, housing, career options, family support, and federal benefits and will be targeted towards educating and collaborating with communities and their leaders, human service workers, and local churches who encounter these Veterans and their families. It will better enable our communities to educate and encourage Veterans to get help they need.

North Central Regional Mental Health Board (NCRMHB) can organize this half-day veterans' behavioral-health event in Hartford for about 100 participants if a goal of $500 in tax deductible donations are made through Groupon Grassroots website. Each additional $500 raised will fund a half-day event in another part of Connecticut. Instead of going out to lunch on Veteran’s Day please consider making a donation to help these heroes.

The campaign runs from October 15 through October 21st.
