Wheeler will host a community Open House on December 20 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Connecticut Clearinghouse, 334 Farmington Avenue, Plainville, to provide local residents with resources, information and support, including strategies for dealing with the impact of trauma and violence.

"Caring for Yourself, Your Family and Others During Times of Tragedy," special sessions led by Wheeler clinicians, will be offered in the late morning and early evening, and will focus on how to talk with young children and adolescents about the events in Sandy Hook, the practice of self care, and strategies for reaching out and caring for others during times of crisis. Throughout the day, the public may visit the Clearinghouse to learn more about available statewide and national resources, and pick up brochures and fact sheets with information on how to talk with children during times of crisis, helping children and loved ones manage after a traumatic event, and more. Wheeler counselors also will be onsite to provide support and guidance.
