Special Olympics Connecticut Karting Challenge Returns to Lime Rock, May 20

Special Olympics Connecticut announces that in cooperation with Lime Rock Park and Endurance Karting, they will be hosting the 12th Annual Karting Challenge on May 20th. The Special Olympics Connecticut Karting Challenge is a four-hour endurance race, on the demanding Lime Rock Park Autocross track. Drivers go head to head with fellow racing drivers to compete for the fastest times.   Prizes and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category, rookie, semi- professional and professional. To register for the event, or for more information, call Sharon Pelkey at 203-535-6383 or email sharp@soct.org. Registration closes May 16th.

“Kart racing is fast becoming one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways for co-workers, families and friends to explore the thrills of racing, shared Sharon Pelkey, Director of Special Events. It is viewed as a great teambuilding experience for area corporations and businesses and is the alternative to the golf tournament setting.”

Each kart is professionally race prepared with a 10 HP engine, racing tires and hydraulic racing brakes for peak performance. The karts, which are capable of speeds in excess of 50 mph, are equally prepared, so everyone has an equal chance at winning.  Safety apparel is provided for each driver and is mandatory. Entry fee is $1,300 for a team of four or $350 per person and includes the use of the kart, mechanical preparation and up-keep, fuel, helmet and racing uniforms.  Each team receives professional instructions and practice time, giving novices a chance to adjust to the kart before the race.   A boxed lunch is included for each driver as well as refreshments and snacks throughout the day. This event continues to grow each year and last year it was completely sold out.

Lime Rock Park has been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics Connecticut and numerous other local charities.   This Karting Challenge is a prelude to the Lime Rock Park’s 2014 Racing Season, which starts during Memorial Day Weekend, featuring the Lime Rock Park Road Racing Classic. The Karting Challenge is sponsored by: Branig Capital Markets and DMV Roadsters
