Would you ever try out for Reality TV? I used to hear the term, and images of drunken Guido’s or ’real’ housewives would flood my mind. Reality for some, but not mine.
Back in the Spring, I was scrolling though my Facebook page and I came across a casting call for a new type of reality show on HGTV. You see, I LOVE home improvement. I love makeovers, redesigns, and renovations large and small. I also love HGTV, so when I read the show’s criteria, the answer to the question above became a big yes!
The Casting Producer was looking for participants who love flea markets (check), enjoy scavenging for forgotten treasures (double check) and transforming them into pieces of ‘art’ (triple check!). As I continued to read, I knew this was a reality show I could get on board with; and I had just the partner to help make it happen…my talented, unstoppable sister Susan (owner of Adele Bee Ann Patterns).
With Susan’s extensive background in all things vintage and flea market (having worked some of NYC finest fleas), and my background in design and redesign, I knew together we’d be fierce competition. After a lengthy interview process and having to prove our ability to compete, we got the show and the real fun began…
Flea Market Flip puts two teams to the challenge of finding diamonds in the rough to rescue, recycle and re-invent into decorating gems, then reselling them for a profit.
Hosted by Good Morning America’s Co-Anchor Lara Spencer (a flea market fanatic), each team is given 500 dollars and one hour to hunt for pieces with potential, and haggle for the lowest possible price. Once purchased, the pieces are reworked and refurbished, with hopes of creating a treasure that will return a larger profit.
Then it’s off to the next flea market, where the buyers are now sellers, trying to flip the finds for profit. Whichever team makes the most money wins the cash prize!
Sounds exciting, right? Well it definitely was, but not without a good dose of reality TV drama to keep things interesting! I’d love to tell you more...but I can’t. Sooo…you’ll just have to tune in and watch Susan and I on the Premiere Episode of HGTV’s new show, FLEA MARKET FLIP on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th at 9:00pm!
