January 23, 2013: Kids Dental Care of Bristol, Connecticut came to Saint Dominic School in Southington and gave a presentation on a variety of dental hygiene related topics. Children were able to understand the roles and responsibilities of a dental hygienist. Also, the importance of brushing, flossing, and rinsing were explained and stressed as the children learned how cavities are formed and how to prevent them. Topics also included periodontal/gum disease and its causes, the importance of personal protective equipment and how to effectively take care of their teeth, as well as the importance of good nutrition.
Children also had the option to practice effective brushing habits on Kids Dental Care of Bristol’s crocodile friend "Mr. Ferguson.” In the end, the team concluded with a dental presentation which included an educational story book titled "Sam and the Sugar Bug.” This dental presentation focused on the importance of effective dental hygiene habits and how diet can impact their teeth and overall health.
