The Giving Back Girls - FILL THAT BUS

The Giving Back Girls - FILL THAT BUS, looking for school supply donations at Wal-Mart on Sunday, July 22nd.

Going back a couple of years ago, a bunch of girls from DePaolo and Kennedy Middle Schools formed a group called The Giving Back Girls.  Their simple yet powerful mission is to raise money for those in need.  Quarterly over the past two years, the girls have conducted bake sales.  Half the proceeds go back to the YMCA for camp scholarships and the other half goes back to Southington Community Services.  The ARC of Southington, which is an agency for people with developmental disabilities, is The Giving Back Girls sponsor and does all the advertising, copying and mailings for the group.

Recently, through coordination between Southington Community Services and the ARC of Southington, the girls took over the Smart Start program for the town.  The girls wanted to do something different this year so they asked New Britain Transportation if they would donate a bus for Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 10am-1pm.  The bus will be parked outside Walmart.  The girls named the event FILL THAT BUS.   With the help of our community, the girls are hoping to fill an entire school bus with school supplies for their program.  The Smart Start program is a program that fills around 350 backpacks for kids in town that can’t afford to purchase school supplies.

Please consider dropping by Wal-Mart this Sunday, July 22nd. In addition to helping The Giving Back Girls FILL THAT BUS, you will also be building assets in our local children – showing them that you care and support their efforts.
