Nutmeg TV LIVE MIC!: Call In Your Questions About Alzheimer's and Dementia Caregiving 'We’re still nursing our wounds out of this sort of thing,' Charlotte Neild said as someone who lost her mother to Alzheimer's. When Nutmeg TV's Charlotte Neild and her father were taking care of her mother, Marie as she battled Alzheimer's, there weren't many support groups. She lost her mother to the disease in 1999 after battling it for about 10 years. "My dad and I were struggling to be the caretakers for my mom," said Neild, executive assistant to Nutmeg TV Executive Director Joanie Sutter. ”We’re still nursing our wounds out of this sort of thing.” But there are many more resources out there now, so she wants others caring for someone with Alzheimer's to be informed. She hopes to do that as host of the Farmington public access cable station's next LIVE MIC! on May 22, Families Struggling with Alzheimer's or Dementia There's Help! The hour-long program, which goes 7 to 8 p.m., will be a live conversation on the subject with Freddi Hoffmann and Dianne Thurston of McLean as guests. Viewers can call in to ask questions on the topic. McLean is a non-profit "senior living and healthcare" provider in Simsbury, according to its website. Hoffmann is the vice president of marketing, sales and new business at McLean and Thurston has been a social worker there for about 14 years. Hoffman reached out to Neild about featuring a discussion about Alzheimer's and dementia on the LIVE MIC! series, so the two began collaborating on the idea. “I’m very excited for the people who are unfortunately going through this now," Neild said of the opportunity to share this information with them and prepare them. "There’s a lot of information you can tap into now to not feel alone in caregiving." You can watch the May 22 LIVE MIC! on Channel 5 on Comcast (Channel 99 for AT&T customers) or live stream it online at www.nutmegtv.org.
