Today is the last day we will be running "Letter to the Editor" regarding the upcoming election. That doesn't mean you can't comment on the ones that have been submitted.
As a remainder, we are asking all Southington Patch users to use at least their first name and last initial when responding to the letter. Comments must be civil, although varying opinions are allowed - and encouraged.
Name calling, personal attacks and other inappropriate comments will be removed.
For those who would like to submit a letter to the editor that is not election-related, you can do that at any time by contacting Local Editor Jason Vallee at Jason.Vallee@patch.com. We hope to hear from you!
Today's letter comes from John Moise, Democratic candidate for Town Council:
These past two years have been very troubling, with over $6 million in new spending by the republican majority. The Republican controlled town boards continue to give away benefits and large raises to select administrators while they try to cut the senior citizens bus from the budget and say, “people (seniors) could pay for it of their own pockets.”
The Republican majority sold North Center School for $1 without the Board of Finance, an elected board, voting on this plan. The fiduciary responsibility of the Board of Finance is to have oversight on all town spending. Simply put, the Board of Finance was circumvented and the voice of the residents muted without a referendum in order to push through projects. We live in a democracy and all residents should be represented.
My name is John Moise and I am a candidate for the Southington Town Council to ensure your voices are heard. We must foster real communication and open, transparent government. Bring back financial responsibility to each of the elected boards and end the giveaways at the expense of the residents.
On Nov. 8, I am asking for your support along with Team Southington. Vote line A for the Democrats.
John P. Moise
Democratic Town Council candidate
