Patch’s Poll: Are Women’s Issues The Deciding Factor in the 2012 Presidential Election?

While the economy continues to be a top factor, the debate over women’s reproductive rights is still driving much of the discussion in the election for the White House.

Analysts and pundits in the 2012 election season believe that the female vote will be a major factor in whether President Barack Obama will be reelected.

A new ABC poll
shows Obama dipping in popularity among women voters, although he still holds an advantage over Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

A major part of the discussion has been the Republican and Democratic platform with regard to women’s reproductive rights. First Lady Michelle Obama made a pitch to women during her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention that her husband, "believes that women are more than capable of making our own choices about our bodies and our health care.”

But a counter argument from the Republican side has been more on how women’s rights are a distraction from the economy, which still is the driving issue.

“This war on women is absolutely phony,” said Pat Longo, an RNC delegate from Wilton told Patch last week. “It’s strictly to distract from issues of debt, deficit and spending.”

Do you think women’s health issues will be a deciding factor in this election, despite the economy downturn and factors such as the high unemployment rate? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

The Romneys and Ryans embody traditional American values, but beyond that--the stark differences in the values and Principles of the D & R parties are brilliantly highlighted by the obvious old-fashioned goodness and patriotism omnipresent at the GOP convention last week.
That is in vivid contrast to DEM speaker (and HHS Sec.) K. Sebelius' comments about "motherhood as a liability" and womanhood as a "pre-existing condition." The DNC "abortion fest" is revealing, to Americans paying attention, exactly why "GOD" was taken out, this year, of the Democratic platform!! Shameful. In contrast, the GOP convention featured dozens of exciting speakers of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and superb accomplishments! Especially the women, such as governors Susana Martinez, Mary Fallin and Nikki Haley, Condoleezza Rice, Senator Kelly Ayotte, and congressional candidate Mia Love, whose parents immigrated from Haiti, and who graduated from the Univ. of Hartford and is now a mayor in Utah, as well as mother of 3 children! Here is a link to her rousing and patriotic 5 min. speech last week, challenging Obama that "Mr. President, the American people are awake; and we're not buying what you are selling!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lfop5TeDnZo&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/user/gopconvention2012/videos (links to all other speeches and other events) Romney is also exactly correct, that the DEM convention is a "Celebration of Failure"!!!!

Mac, don't be so hard on the dems about taking God out of their platform, it may not have been their choice, it may have been at God's request.

I have 2 daughters. I believe that they, as women, are in a better position to succeed in life than at any other point in history. The constitution already protects their rights, including their health issues. My wife is also a very successful mom, wife and career woman. I think it is a joke to think that women's rights are the main focus of this economy. It's embarrassing that the Democratic Party is creating issues that don't exist because they have nothing else to talk about. Let's please get on with the issues at hand - the economy. Enough of the distractions.
