Patch’s Poll: Do You Know Your BMI or Want to Know It?

The body mass index defines a person’s body type, and indicates whether or not someone is obese.

When it comes to obesity, Connecticut is at the bottom of the list.

New data released by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that this state ranks 42nd in the rate obesity, tieing with Nevada at 24.5 percent.

Other northeast states, including New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, are also low on the obesity scale, while the lowest is Colorado at 20.7 percent.

The tool used in this study was the body mass index, or BMI, which is calculated by measuring a person’s height and weight.

A normal BMI is between 20 to 25, and a BMI over 25 is considered overweight. If a person’s BMI exceeds 30 then that person is obese, officials say.

Do you know your BMI? If not, do you even want to know? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
