Time for a change in politics.

How many times when it comes to an election have you voted for the candidate that is least dangerous? Is that not a sad commentary of our political machine that is in place? I call it a political machine for a reason.  I admit I am a Democrat. Not what you see today, but an old Democrat that is conservative. It really does not matter which party you belong too, since either one has become a machine that brings forth the control of by a small group of people: the elite; the oligarchy. They are not concerned about the people, but their power and wealth. This political machine creates a democratic way of life.  But are we a Democratic society or a Republic?  Many people over the years have forgotten the difference.  A Democratic society is one that is based on the majority rule only principle.  Where a Republic bases the majority rule when it in line with the Supreme Laws of our country.  The Supreme Laws are not necessarily as many people thing, the laws that the legislators pass, but the Constitutions of both first the Federal and then the States. Our Government both state and federal has exceeded their powers in many ways. The people have lost their control over this government.

Just recently I was sitting listening to one of the current gubernatorial candidates.  Which one is irrelevant, because all candidates state the same thing:  Vote out the people that you do not agree with, I can make a difference.  I heard this since I started voting in the early 70’s.  We are now coming into another election cycle.  The candidates are starting their rounds.  They are making plays for the different groups of people to win their election to the new or existing seat.  Once they enter office, they forget about their constituents, favor their political machine, and their PACS. Nothing has changed in the 42 years I have been voting, only the names have changed, but the story remains the same.

How can we change this mad house? I do have a couple of ideas, but it is going to require that the people need to stand up and start to be heard.  From 1960 to 2000, the State of Connecticut Constitution has been modified 54 times.  In my research, 1960 was the first change that I have found. Many of the small changes do not help the citizens, but those in power. Nowhere in our Constitutions, is a check and balance to prevent this except when the Congress or State Legislators find an impeachable offense. But who controls this?  The very same political machine that has created this oligarchy.  What we need is to amend the State Constitution with two amendments: Term Limits; and a Recall Amendment.

Term limits would reduce the effect of the political machine in creating a path of power.  Just look at what has happened to our political system.  The politicians start at the local level, create this network in the party, and then move to a higher office.  Each time they grow in power.  Establishing term limits would slow down this process.

The Recall Amendment would further give the people the check and balance when the political representative is not listening to their constituents. Twenty four states have this amendment to their state constitutions.  In those states, the balance of power has prevented what is happening here in Connecticut:  control by a small group of liberals and our inalienable rights being removed.

If we do not want to become slaves, loose our freedoms, we need to make those changes.  Who is willing to work with me to bring these changes back?  Start by writing your legislators asking them to vote on amending the State Constitution to add term limits and recall votes.
