5-Car Accident on I-84 in Southington Leaves Naugatuck Woman, 22, Dead

Crash just before 4 a.m. was caused by an Oxford man, police said.

State police are investigating a 5-car accident on Interstate 84 in Southington Sunday morning that has left one person dead, according to a press release from the Connecticut State Police.

Around 3:50 a.m., traffic was stopped on I-84 westbound, east of Exit 27 in Southington due to a separate accident further down the roadway, the press release stated.

Police said Clarivel Rivera, 35, of 16 Larkey Road in Oxford, crashed her car into the rear of a car being driver by Kathleen Karlak, 22, of 243 E. Waterbury Road in Naugatuck, police said. Karlak suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, police said.

After the impact, Karlak's Mazda 3 struck a Toyota Sienna, driven by Cinthya Font of Litchfield. Font's car then veered to the left and collided with a U-Haul truck, being drive by Dominique Wiley-Camacho of Spokane, Wash.

Meanwhile, Karlak continued to veer left and collided with John Gadue, of Waterbury.

Font, 38, was also taken to Waterbury Hospital for a complaint of pain.

State police said the case remains under investigation and anyone with information related to the accident should contact the Troop H barracks at 860-534-1000.
