Accused Serial Burglar Charged in March Larceny

Police said Canton-based home improvement contractor Anthony Buccheri targeted a Butternut Lane client and took $2,500 worth of electronics.

Southington police have arrested an accused serial burglar they said broke into a Butternut Lane home in March where he had been working as a contractor and stole television, computer, video game system and other electronics.

Anthony Buccheri, 27, was arrested on a warrant Friday during a scheduled appearance in Bristol Superior Court and arraigned immediately on charges of third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny.

The Canton-based home improvement contractor has been in state custody since April 14, when he was arrested in Canton on charges of criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. Canton police said they found him on the roof of a housing complex wearing gloves and carrying a crowbar.

On May 20, he was charged with four counts of third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and five counts of violation of probation stemming from multiple incidents in both Canton and Farmington. He could still face additional charges, local departments said.

Southington Police Sgt. Lowell DePalma said it was a similar arrest in Farmington that led police to eventually identify Buccheri as a suspect in a March 15 home burglary on Butternut Lane.

“Anthony was contracted to complete work at the house, but an investigation revealed he entered the home when no one was around and took a television, computer and video game equipment,” DePalma said. “It was a collaborative effort with the Farmington Police Department that allowed detectives to tie him to the burglary.”

The items taken were valued at approximately $2,500, DePalma said.

This is not the first set of charges Buccheri has faced for burglary. He pleaded guilty to five separate burglary charges in 2008 after he was identified and arrest by Connecticut State Police with Troop C in Tolland, according to the State of Connecticut judicial website.

Buccheri, who is also facing a criminal charge of possession of narcotics from an unrelated March case out of Hartford, appeared in Hartford Superior Court Tuesday but did not present any pleas according to court officials.

He currently remains in custody at the Hartford Correction Center in lieu of $125,100 in bonds, officials with the state Department of Correction said.

Buccheri is due back in Bristol Superior Court to face the Southington-based charges on June 28.
