Anonymous Tip Leads to Arrest, Woman Then Escapes from Nearby Hospital

Police said a New Milford woman was taken into custody without incident from the Motel 6 in Southington, but while being treated for an undisclosed condition not related to the arrest, she fled from the hospital.

A New Milford woman wanted for arrest warrants out of Torrington and Waterbury is now facing additional charges after attempting to bolt from a hospital room while being treated for a condition unrelated to her arrest.

Officers took Jillian Pratt, of 64 Bridge Street in New Milford into custody on Sunday after receiving an anonymous tip that she was staying at the Motel 6 on Queen Street, Southington Police Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said Monday.

Dobratz said officers arrived and confirmed she was at the hotel, in a room with a man that had a protective order against Pratt, 22, and she was taken into custody without incident. She was then processed and taken to The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General, with a condition not related to the arrest, police said.

“While she was being treated, Pratt ran out of the examination room and fled the hospital grounds,” Dobratz said in a press release. “The Hospital contacted the Southington Police Deptartment and the New Britain Police Department and advised them that Pratt fled the hospital and they began to search for Pratt,” Dobratz said.

“At the time of the escape, Pratt was on a ‘Police Hold’ and there were no Southington police officers at the hospital,” he said.

Officers began investigating, according to the police report, and the effort eventually led them back to Waterbury where Pratt was found hiding in a relative’s home. The relative did not know Pratt was on the run and cooperated with police.

The relative is not facing charges in the case, police said.

Pratt is facing charges including violation of a protective order, two counts of first-degree failure to appear, two counts of second-degree failure to appear, escape from custody and interfering with police.

She was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court Monday and remains in custody in lieu of bond, court officials said.
