Case Against Suspect in Southington Fatal Fire Is Continued

The case against Eric Morelli was continued until later this month and court records remain sealed.

The teen facing multiple charges in connection with the apartment fire that killed a young Southington woman made his first appearance in court Monday.

The appearance of Eric Morelli, 18, of 244 Westwood Rd., Southington, was reportedly brief as the case was continued until July 29 in state Superior Court in Bristol. The court records for the case remain sealed.

Morelli's attorney, Ray Hassett, told WFSB that his client is remorseful but he has advised Morelli not to contact the family of Kristen Milano, 19, who was asleep in a second-floor bedroom of the Summer Brook Apartment complex, 32 Darling St. when Morelli reportedly threw a burning sparkler through a window on June 22. Milano died of smoke inhalation and her death was ruled a homicide.

Hassett said Morelli is continuing school studies since his arrest.
