Route 322 Reopened After Cement Truck Accident

A cement truck overturned near Rogers Orchards Tuesday morning, forcing police to close the road for four hours.

Southington police have reopened Route 322 near the Wolcott town line after clearing a cement truck that overturned in the driveway to Rogers Orchards on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. when the driver attempted to turn around in the Rogers Orchards driveway, Southington Police Sgt. Lowell DePalma said.

The driver, whose name was not released, proceeded to make a wide turn and the truck hit a patch of ice and began to slide, DePalma said. The drive attempted to straighten the truck, but it overturned and crashed along the edge of the road.

The driver suffered minor injuries during the crash, but was treated at the Hospital of Central Connecticut and has since been released according to police.

No one else was involved in the accident, police said.

Department of Environmental Protection officials, firefighters and police remained on scene for nearly four hours as equipment was called in to turn the truck upright. The process caused police to close down the portion of Meriden Waterbury Road which lies on the hill in order for responders to complete the work.

Cars had backed up considerably along the road and motorists were met with about 15 minutes delays early in the day, but traffic was lighter during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

The road reopened around 1 p.m., officials said.
