Couple Saves Southington Family From Fire

An off-duty Waterbury firefighter and his wife saw flames and rescued two families Sunday night.

A local family was saved from harm Sunday night when an off-duty firefighter and his wife spotted flames and pulled them from their home.

According to published reports, the family was sleeping when Jaclyn and Richard Piccirillo passed their home at 56 Laurel St. and saw that flames had engulfed their attached garage and were beginning to spread to the house.

The Piccirillos immediately kicked the door down, ran inside and pulled the family out, according to NBC. Richard Piccirillo is a firefighter in Waterbury.

Next, they went next door to evacuate the neighbors. The house next door also sustained some damage. No one was injured.

According to the Record Journal, the house will be uninhabitable for some time. The fire is believed to have started in the garage and the cause is under investigation. A pair of vehicles were also destroyed.
