(Updated) Driver Suffers Minor Injuries in Monday Collision with School Bus

For the second time in as many months, a driver was injured in an accident involving a school bus on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Southington police said.

A Southington woman was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury with minor injuries and students arrived late for class on Monday morning after an accident involving a school bus and car near the Interstate 84 on ramp on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

Southington police said the woman was making a left turn, preparing to enter the highway, when she collided with the school bus. She proceeded to get out of the car without putting it in park, leaving the car to roll into a third vehicle and cause minor damage.

No students were injured in the accident, police said.

School officials confirmed reports that a second bus was sent to take the students to Southington High School.

Further details, including whether the Southington Police Department issued any citations, were not immediately available. The accident remains under investigation.

It is the second school bus accident in as many months along the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. On Oct. 17, a SUV rear-ended a school bus but no one was injured.
