Family Displaced By Chimney Fire

A local family is temporarily displaced from their home after a fire started in the chimney and spread briefly into the nearby wall.

Fire officials said a local family has been displaced for the day following a chimney fire along McKenzie Drive in Southington this afternoon.

The 3 p.m. chimney fire started inside a home at 144 McKenzie Drive and spread quickly from the fireplace to the adjacent wall, fire officials said. Homeowners Steven and Nancy Beaulieu were inside at the time, but there were no injuries reported.

The tight roads caused by snow banks within the residential neighborhood made the response more difficult, but fire officials were able to contain and douse the fire in under 30 minutes.

Although there was some damage to the home's wall as a result of the fire spreading, fire officials said the family could be allowed to return to the home shortly pending a safety inspection by town building officials.
