Tractor-Trailer Fire Tied Up Afternoon Traffic

Waterbury foam truck was placed on standby after a truck filled with batteries began smoking Thursday afternoon.

Several lanes were closed for nearly two hours Thursday afternoon  along Interstate 84 East just before exit 29 as fire officials responded to a tractor-trailer fire.

The reports, which came in just after 3:30 p.m., reported smoke from the truck and concerns that a fire could cause more serious issues because of a load of batteries being carried inside the trailer.

Fire officials notified the Waterbury Fire Department and a foam truck had been placed on standby.

No injuries were reported.
