Fire on West Center Displaces Several Residents

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but quick response and alert residents helped prevent any injuries, fire officials said.

A fire on West Center Street has displaced four people from their apartments after flames tore through the first floor on Thursday night.

Fire officials responded to 12 West Center St. just after 8 p.m. to reports of a fire in a residential complex and arrived to find flames showing from the rear of the building with the fire on the first floor, according to Capt. Alan Zygmunt.

Crews searched the building while others were able to attack the fire, eventually extinguishing it just before 9 p.m.

“A total of four apartments in the building were occupied and everyone escaped safely and there were no injuries,” Zygmunt said. “All occupants were displaced for the night with two staying with relatives and others were cared for by Southington Community Services.”

“The Fire Marshal’s office will return to the scene in the morning to continue their investigation and no information on the cause of the fire is available at this time,” he said.

Further information was not immediately available. Zygmunt said more information will be released as soon as it is available.
