Forensic Evidence Ties Uliasz to West Pines Vandalism

Southington police said the teenager allegedly involved in the Curtiss Street burglaries will soon face charges stemming from $30,000 in damage done in July 2011 on West Pine Drive, but he didn't act alone there.

Forensic evidence recently obtained during the investigation into a Southington teenager already charged in connection with a string of nighttime burglaries on Curtiss Street now ties him to a year-old vandalism case along West Pine Drive, police said Wednesday.

Police said Wednesday that they are using recently submitted forensic evidence to seek a warrant for 18-year-old Jordan Uliasz in connection with the July 2011 vandalism that caused more than $30,000 in damage.

“Homeowners and contractors who reported extensive vandalism to five homes under construction as well as to a contractor’s vehicles parked in the area,” Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said. “An additional arrest will also be made in this case as detectives have developed information to identify a second individual involved in the crime.”

Each of the five homes vandalized in the July 23, 2011, incident were unoccupied. They were part of a housing development being built by several contractors.

When police were initially unable to obtain the evidence to move forward with a case, Oak Land Developers, Lovley Developers and Connecticut Residential for information.

It appeared until detectives executed a search warrant on Uliasz home earlier this month, police said Wednesday.

“Members of the () Detective Division processed the homes for evidence and submitted such to the Connecticut State Police Forensic Laboratory,” Dobratz said.

Uliasz has found himself in constant legal trouble since . Police said he acted alone in these incidents.

Late last week, however, as he appeared in Bristol Superior Court after Dobratz said further investigation was also able to tie him to a July 19 incident that occurred on Muir Terrace.

Dobratz said he entered the home while the residents were present and took several items that were in his custody when police executed the search warrant.

Uliasz is facing charges of first-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, home invasion and first-degree criminal mischief in the case. He remains in custody in lieu of a $750,000 bond, court records show, and is currently being held at the Hartford Correctional Center, according to state Department of Correction records.

Both investigations remain active and police are asking anyone with information in either the burglaries or the West Pine Drive vandalism to contact the police department at (860) 621-0101.
