Police Charge Four After Discovering Marijuana Growth Operation

Officers said Thursday that 10.75 ounces of marijuana was seized from the West Center Street home.

Southington police have arrested several local residents after a narcotics investigation led to the discovery of various plants and packaging materials at a West Center Street home.

Police said an investigation by the Southington Police Department's Narcotics Enforcement Team revealed that the family, of 86 W. Center St., had been growing, packaging selling marijuana. Officers discovered the marijuana during an investigation last week, police said Thursday.

Officers took Phouthasack Phengsavath, Anthony Phengsavath, Brenda Phengsavath and Khampheng Phengsavath each into custody following the investigation.

Phouthasack Phengsavath, 26, was charged with with possession of more then four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of school, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 of school, possession of drug paraphernalia and cultivation of marijuana.

Anthony Phengsavath, 23, was charged with with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of school, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 of school, possession of over a half ounce and less then four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Anthony and Phouthasack Phengsavath were released after posting a $15,000 bond and are due in Bristol Superior Court on Feb. 27 for arraignment, according to police.

Brenda Phengsavath, 20, was charged with with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of school, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 of school, possession of over a half ounce and less then four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on Feb. 27 as well.

Officers also arrested Khampheng Phengsavath, 51, on one charge of first-degree failure to appear. He was arraigned on Feb. 14 and has since been released on a $50,000 bond, according to court records.

Police said members of the narcotics unit had received a tip regarding an operation at the home and were able to obtain a search warrant from the court. Sgt. Lowell DePalma said the warrant was served on Feb. 10 around 1 p.m.

"This search warrant led to the finding of numerous items of marijuana packaged for sale," DePalma said. "The total approximate amount of marijuana seized was 10.75 ounces. Scales, bags and evidence of a small marijuana grow operation were also seized."

Further details of the arrest were not released on Thursday afternoon.
