A man approached a worker at Sunny Acres Farm, located about half a mile south
of Interstate 691, around 2:15 p.m. and the man told the farmer he had run away
from home. The farmer, who recognized the man from media reports, called police
who identified him as Harold Smith.
Cheshire police confirmed Smith’s identity and he was transported to The
Hospital of Central Connecticut Bradley Campus as a precautionary measure, but
was medically cleared later in the day, Southington Police Lt. Michael
“Mr. Smith advised officers that he left home and walked down the linear trail
into Cheshire,” Baribault said. “He left the trail and walked down Route 10
until he reached Blacks Rd. Mr. Smith walked approximately one half of a mile on
Blacks Rd. and entered a field on the Sunny Acre Farm.
“He found an unsecured abandoned vehicle and sought shelter inside for the last
three days,” he said. “He approached the farm worker after seeing him working
in the field.”
