Jury Selection Resumes for Komisarjevsky

Three men and five women chosen so far to decide Cheshire home invasion defendant's fate.

Jury selection resumes today for Joshua Komisarjevsky, the second Cheshire home invasion defendant, in New Haven Superior Court.

Eight jurors have been chosen so far, three men and five women. Lawyers and prosecutors must pick 12 jurors, six alternates and three backup alternates for the trial, which is scheduled to begin in September.

Komisarjevsky faces the death penalty for the home invasion triple homicide of a mother and her two daughters in July 2007. His co-defendant, Steven Hayes, was convicted in 2010 and is on death row.

The intense news coverage of the case, along with the difficulty finding jurors who have not made up their minds or wouldn’t find it a financial hardship to serve for the three-month trial, have complicated the task of choosing a jury.

But Judge Jon C. Blue has rejected defense motions to move the trial to another part of the state and a plea offer for Komisarjevsky to plead guilty in return for a sentence of life without possibility of release.
