New Britain Man Charged in Aggressive Sexual Assault

Police said the 38-year-old bought alcohol for the 19-year-old Southington resident earlier this month before allegedly physically and sexually assaulting her.

Officers have arrested a New Britain man they said had physically and sexually assaulted a Southington woman earlier this month after buying her alcohol and allegedly taking advantage of her when she became too inebriated to fend him off.

Andrzej Pedziwiatr, of 194 Gold St. in New Britain, was taken into custody Friday at the HUSH store on Queen Street.

Pedziwiatr, 38, was arraigned Monday in Bristol superior Court on charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and delivering alcohol to a minor.

He remains in state custody in lieu of a $500,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with the victim. Pedziwiatr was unable to make bond before the end of the day Monday.

Police said the case stems from an incident on Nov. 3, when Pedziwiatr had allegedly given alcohol to a 19-year-old Southington woman, who was known to him.

Sgt. Lowell DePalma said Monday that after the victim became intoxicated – so much so that she was unable to take care of herself – Pedziwiatr proceeded to take advantage of her and left her with considerable bruising.

The nature of the act is what led to the kidnapping charge, DePalma said.

“The alcoholic beverage made her incapacitated to a point where she was no longer able to protect herself,” DePalma said. “Under state statutes, this kind of crime is considered to be a form of kidnapping as a result of her mental condition.”

Further details of the case, including the victim’s name and how she knew Pedziwiatr, were sealed under court order.

He is due back in Bristol Superior Court on Dec. 2, at which point the case could will be screened for transfer to part A in New Britain. Part A is a court which handles cases of a serious nature including murders, first-degree assaults, serious robberies and more.
