New Britain Teen That Injured Officer Found in Vermont

Police in Barton, Vt., have taken a 19-year-old wanted in connection with a car theft and hit-and-run that left an officer seriously injured.

The search for a man wanted in connection with a car theft and hit-and-run case on Jan. 19 is now over.

New Britain police said Wednesday evening that they have located 19-year-old Jaheem Snype, of New Britain, in Barton, Vt. Snype was taken into custody without incident. Snype is facing extradition to Connecticut on various charges including attempted murder, first-degree assault, assault on a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle.

Barton is located in northern Vermont, about 15 miles from the Canadian border. Police were unable to say whether Snype may have been headed to Canada or where he was staying.

New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell said in a press conference that his arrest "is the first step in holding (Snype) accountable for violently attacking and so horribly injuring Officer Brett Morgan."

According to police reports, Skype allegedly was in possession of a stolen Hyundai Sonata on Sunday evening about 30 minutes after the car was reported stolen when he was confronted by an officer. Police said Skype, last known address of 259 Grove St. in New Britain, fled from the attempted stop, striking and dragging the officer 100 feet with the car.

Morgan is reportedly recovering after approximately nine hours of surgery on Monday, according to a press release from the department.

Also arrested on Wednesday was Snype's half brother, 23-year-old Frankie Gonzalez, who admitted his role in the Sunday incident and told police where they would find Snype.

Gonzalez is also facing extradition and charges, police said.
