Plainville Man To Serve 18 Months for Witness Tampering

Police said the 19-year-old tried to get a witness to lie in order to protect his brother.

A 19-year-old Plainville resident has been ordered to serve 18 months in prison after police said he tampered with witnesses in an attempt to hinder the prosecution of his brother, who is facing charges stemming from a September theft.

Officers took Nasser Abdelaziz, 19, of 6 Fleetwood Drive in Plainville, into custody earlier this month. He entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to serve seven years in prison, sentence suspended after 18 months served with three years of probation.

The conviction comes while his brother, Jamal Abdelziz, continues to face charges stemming from the theft of a wallet and credit card from a Southington man’s car in early September.

Jamal Abdelaziz, also a resident of 6 Fleetwood Drive in Plainville, is facing charges of sixth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft, criminal impersonation, third-degree forgery and third-degree burglary in the case, according to court records.

Jamal Abdelaziz is also facing charges of second-degree harassment and second-degree breach of peace for approaching his accuser in Southington in October, court records show.

Police said in September that Abdelaziz had stolen the wallet from a car after first stealing keys from the owner during a party.

“The arrest stems from a complaint filed on Aug. 8 by a local resident who said his wallet was taken from his car, which had been locked,” said Southington Police Sgt. Lowell DePalma. “The man told police he had lost his keys earlier in the week and the person who stole the wallet may have had access to get into the vehicle.”

Detectives followed charges on the credit card and found it had been used shortly after the theft at the store on Queen Street. In reviewing the surveillance video, police said three men entered the store and one proceeded to guy several gift cards using the credit card.

The victim identified Abdelaziz on the video, police said, and officers were able to obtain a warrant for the arrest. Abdelaziz later confessed to the theft, which totaled $312, police said.
