Police Announce Road Closures, Flood Warnings

Officers are asking residents to be aware of storm preparations as Hurricane Irene nears and to be prepared for flooding.

The  has announced that two roads will be closed as of 5 p.m. Saturday, as the town continues to prepare for turbulent weather.

Curtiss Street will be shut down between North Main Street and Hart Street, and Mill Street will be shut down from North Main Street and Water Street until further notice.

In addition, the department is asking residents along the following routes to be prepared for possible flooding and road closures with as much as 9 inches of rain expected.

The following roads in Southington have flooded during past storms and residents should be aware of this and use caution:

  1. Main Street in Plantsville Center
  2. Woodruff Street between Marcy Drive and the main entrance to Spring Lake Village
  3. Woodruff Street in the area of Memorial Park
  4. Jude Lane at Monarch Drive
  5. River Street at Squire Drive
  6. Queen Street (Route 10) between River Street and the Plainville town line
  7. Meriden & Waterbury Road (Route 322) between South End Road and Birch Street (Cheshire town line)
  8. South Main Street (Route 10) and Clark Street
  9. Maxwell Noble Drive
  10. Summer Street between West Center St. and Knowles Avenue
  11. Flanders Street and Flanders Road

As preperations continue and the storm draws near, the Southington Police Department will provide updates of closures and other information on their Facebook page and through their Twitter account so residents can follow even on their cellphones, Sgt. Lowell DePalma said.
