Police Charge Newington Man in West Street Convenience Store Robbery

A report from the Southington Police Department said officers received information that the man was staying at the nearby Residence Inn at the time and had escaped with more than $1,300.

A Newington man is facing multiple charges including robbery after officers said he was involved in the robbery and theft of more than $1,300 from a West Street convenience store on Nov. 23.

Angel Louis Delgado, of 124 Brentwood Road in Newington, was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on Nov. 26 on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree larceny, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, second-degree breach of peace, violation of a protective order and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Delgado, 37, was released after posting a $75,000 bond, according to the state's Judicial Branch website. He is due back in court and is expected to enter a plea to the charges on Jan. 9.

According to reports from the Southington Police Department, Delgado entered the Country Farm convenience store on West Street during the evening hours of Nov. 23 and showed a weapon before demanding cash.

He was able to leave the store with approximately $1,300 and proceeded to get into a car driven by a woman who had a protective order against him, according to the police report.

Detectives said the department received information during their subsequent investigation that Delgado may have been involved and was staying at the nearby Residence Inn on West Street. When officers went to the hotel, they found evidence including the weapon, a fake gun, and the stolen cash.

According to court records
, Delgado also has pending charges related to a domestic case in Bristol on Aug. 27. He is facing charges of second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assult in the case.

The case is awaiting court disposition after he applied for accelerated rehabilitation.
