If you don't wear your seatbelt, it's going to cost you.
That's the message members of the Southington Police Department are sending to the public as they kick off their annual click-it or ticket campaign in preparation for the holiday season.
Police released the following on Friday:
The 2012 National Click it or Ticket seatbelt enforcement mobilization kicks off Dec. 3, 2012 to help save lives by cracking down on those who don’t buckle up.

The Southington Police Department is joining with other state and local Law enforcement agencies around the country to help save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws around the clock.
Seat belt use save thousands of lives across America each year and the Southington Police Department is helping spread the word through Enforcement and Education. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics show that in 2010 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide.
This year’s Click it or Ticket enforcement mobilization runs from Dec. 3 through Dec. 16.

Seatbelts save lives but being a scofflaw only gets the scofflaw killed. Scofflaws on their cell phones talking or texting while driving kill others and cause far more damage. One day law ENFORCEMENT will understand this simple concept and equally valid state law, probably right after someone comes up with a catchy slogan like "Click-it or Ticket-it" to help them remember!
