Police Release Video in Armed Robbery as Detectives Seek Help in IDing Suspect

Officers hope the video footage recorded on a robbery on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike will help gain information from the public that will allow officers to identify the man involved.

Southington police have released video footage of an Aug. 22 armed robbery at the Sam's Food Mart on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in an effort to gain information from the public that could lead to an arrest.

Detectives have been unable to obtain the information necessary to identify a man involved in the armed robbery last week, police said Thursday morning, and are seeking help in finding leads.

The robbery took place at the 2211 Meriden-Waterbury store around 9 p.m. on Aug. 22, with a black male entering the store and moving behind the counter where he pointed a gun at the clerk. He was then able to escape with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"The clerk handed the suspect money from the cash register," Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz. "The suspect then ordered the clerk to lay on the ground and the suspect fled the scene."An undetermined amount of money was taken during the robbery. There were no injuries reported during the robbery."

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 20s to early 30s, standing approximately five feet, nine inches tall and wearing a white button down long sleeve shirt, baggie blue jeans and a white baseball hat with a New York Yankee logo.

"It appears that the suspect fled the scene in a red sedan with a Connecticut plate on the rear of the vehicle," Dobratz said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Southington Police Department Detective Division, Det. Kyle Dobratz at (860) 378-1654.
