Police: Southington Man Charged in Sexual Assault of a Pregnant Woman

Officers served an arrest warrant on James Monahan Monday after evidence tied him to the aggressive sexual assault of a Southington woman earlier this year.

A Berlin Avenue man is facing a slew of charges including first-degree sexual assault after an investigation tied him to an aggressive assault and sexual attack of a pregnant woman earlier this year.

Southington resident James Monahan, 29, turned himself into police on Monday after learning he was wanted in the case. He was charged with first-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault, third-degree assault on a pregnant person, first-degree unlawful restraint and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Monahan, of 50 Berlin Ave., was arraigned the same day in Bristol Superior Court.

Police indicated that the assault included "an aggressive sexual attack" but were unable to comment further. The case is sealed under court order and further information was not immediately available Tuesday.
