Police: Suspect Used Stolen Credit Cards In a 9-Minute, $1,700 Shopping Spree

Southington Police say more than 100 stolen credit cards were seized when suspect was arrested.


A Brooklyn, NY man is in custody after Southington Police say he went on a nine-minute shopping spree — using some of the 100 stolen credit cards he had in his possession.

According to a police report, on Dec. 4, 2013 shortly after 9 p.m., Stephen Stanley entered the Target Store at 600 Executive Blvd., and made 25 fraudulent transactions using six different credit cards to obtain $1,705 in Target store gift cards as well as American Express gift cards..

Police said the transactions took place over a nine-minute time frame. Stanley is accused of using stolen/compromised credit card information to make fraudulent credit cards. The purchases were captured on the store’s video surveillance system and the 28-year-old Stanley was later identified as the suspect.

Stanley was arrested by Connecticut State Police - Troop G on Dec. 7, 2013, and reportedly had more than 100 stolen credit cards and stolen gift cards in his possession. The Connecticut State Police arrest was found to be related to the Southington incident. 

According to the police report, Stanley, a Brooklyn, NY resident, was arrested on charges of fourth-degree larceny, six counts each of third-degree identity theft and illegal use of a credit card. He is being held on a $50,000 court set bond.
