Purse Snatching Leads to Chase, Arrest

Police said a 24-year-old local man was charged after taking a purse from a carriage at Stop and Shop and fled into the woods as a nearby officer watched.

A mistimed purse snatching has led to the arrest of a Southington man after police said he led an officer on a chase from the on North Main Street to the nearby Beacon Pharmacy building before finally giving up.

Officers took Kyle Borowy, of 237 Ridgewood Road, into custody following the foot chase and booked hi on one charge of fourth-degree larceny. He was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court Monday and is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond, according to court officials.

Police said a woman flagged down an officer who had been stationed across from Stop and Shop Sunday evening just before 5 p.m. and reported that a man had just taken her purse. The officer witnessed the man, later identified as Bowory, 24, running east into the woods near the Stop and Shop property.

The officer then moved his cruiser to a location near the Beacon Pharmacy property, located at the corner of North Main Street, Queen Street and Flanders Road. Bowory was spotted in the woods behind the pharmacy, along the CL&P substation property and was out of breath.

He admitted to stealing the pocket book from the victim’s carriage, police said. The pocket book contained cash, electronics and other items totaling approximately $1,000 in value, police said.

Joseph H. Rhody, 31, of 4 Forest Lane in Southington, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, Oct. 11.

John J. Loomis, 54, of 23 Zwicks Farm Road in Plantsville, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, Oct. 14.

Jamal Abdelaziz, 24, of 6 Fleetwood Drive in Plainville, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree harassment, Oct. 15.

Kevin M. Butler, 54, of 623 Marion Ave. in Southington, was charged with disorderly conduct, Oct. 15.

Crystal T. Chadwick, 31, of 172 Glen St. in New Britain, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, Oct. 12.

Bernard Wagner, 35, of 413 W. Center St. in Southington, was charged with six counts of false representation of a home improvement contractor and two counts of second-degree larceny, Oct. 12.

Brenda Pinette, 34, of 1022 Farmington Ave. in Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility and use of a motor vehicle without permission, Oct. 13.

Steven J. Fitzgerald Jr., 22, of 128 Old Colony Drive in Waterbury, was charged with first-degree failure to appear, Oct. 13.

Russell J. Bly, 37, of 181 Prospect St. in Plantsville, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace, Oct. 13.
