Savage Street Man Charged in Sexual Assault Case

Police said the 45-year-old is facing charges from a 2009 sexual assault case, but details remain murky as the case is sealed under court order.

A 45-year-old Southington man is facing charges stemming from a 2009 sexual assault case in which he had a sexual encounter with a “juvenile female,” police said.

David R. Kelly Jr., of 40 Savage St., turned himself into police Tuesday after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He was booked on charges of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor and released after posting a $5,000 court-set bond.

Kelly is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on Nov. 28, according to court records.

Sgt. Lowell DePalma said police first received the complaint in January 2009 regarding a sexual encounter that Kelly had with a female known to him. The female’s identity, including age, was not released on Wednesday.

“Detectives investigated and found cause for a warrant,” DePalma said. “There are no other details we can release at this time.”

The warrant remains sealed under court order, a common practice for any sexual assault cases involving a minor.
