Schools Closing Early, Parking Ban Issued in Southington

With winter weather heading our way, the town is taking steps to prepare for the storm.

A winter storm expected to start Wednesday afternoon and continue into Sunday has led officials to take steps to prepare including releasing schools early and issuing a parking ban in town.

Snow is expected as early as 1 p.m., with minimal accumulation, but a mix of rain and snow during the afternoon will make for rough road conditions, according to the National Weather Service. The winter mix will continue through the night, with little accumulation but lots of ice.

have announced that they will close early today, running on a half day scheduled. There is no afternoon kindergarten and evening classes have been cancelled, according to the school district’s website.

also indicated that there would be a parking ban in effect to allow for clean up during the storm. The ban will begin with the first snowfall and remain in place through the duration of the storm.
