SHS Senior, Former Athlete, Charged in Steroid Possession Case

Officers arrested the 18-year-old Southington High School senior after he was found in possession of anabolic steroids at the school, police said.

A Southington High School senior and former member of the Blue Knights football team is facing charges after police said officials found he was in possession of anabolic steroids Wednesday afternoon.

Officers took Brian Cunningham, 18, into custody Wednesday on one charge of possession of a controlled substance, according to a press release from the Southington Police Department. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment later this month.

Details of the case remain unclear, but police sources said they were alerted to the fact that he was in possession of the steroids and found evidence to substantiate the claim. Police did not release how the steroids were found.

Cunningham had played football at the school on the varsity squad in 2011 and 2012, according to rosters available in the archives on the CIAC Sports website. Cunningham was a linebacker and fullback, the rosters showed.

School officials declined comment Wednesday, citing confidentiality reasons.

Further details were not available Wednesday.
