Two young Southbury residents were killed Saturday morning when their car crashed into a box truck parked on the shoulder of Interstate 84 in Southington.

State police on Sunday identifiedthe victims as Charlie M. Campoverde, 20, and 17-year-old Aryana J. Youngquist. Police said Campoverde was driving at the time of the accident.

According to the police report, the two were traveling westbound on I-84 in the area of exit 32 when the car drove head on into the rear driver's side of the truck, causing significant damage and pinning Campoverde. State police and Southington fire officials said both were pronounced dead on scene a short time later.

Police said the driver of the truck was reportedly sleeping at the time and had parked on the side of the road, according to the report. The exact cause of the accident is unknown.

Fire officials said the response and investigation called for "extensive efforts," leading the right and center lanes of the highway to remain closed for more than eight hours on Saturday as Troopers conducted their investigation.

The accident investigation remains ongoing, police said Sunday, and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Connecticut State Police at Troop H by phone at (860) 534-1070, ext. 6205.
