Meriden Man Arrested on Weapons Charges

Police said Edward Bruenn used a nightstick and handgun following a verbal confrontation outside the Hydeaway Cafe on West Main Street in Plantsville earlier this month.

A Meriden man is facing charges after police said he used a nightstick and handgun to threaten patrons at the during an incident earlier this month.

Officers took Edward Bruenn, of 340 Curtis St. in Meriden, into custody around 6 p.m. on a warrant after receiving complaints that a man had threatened people with weapons outside the West Main Street bar.

Bruenn, 47, was booked on charges of second-degree breach of peace, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying dangerous weapons and second-degree threatening.

He was released after posting a $10,000 bond, police said, and is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on Sept. 26.

“It is alleged that on Sept. 3, Bruenn had threatened two people with a nightstick and then with a handgun while in the parking lot of the Hydeaway Café,” said Sgt. Lowell DePalma in a press release Friday.

The altercation occurred as Bruenn and the others were leaving the bar at the end of the night. Bruenn and the two people had a verbal confrontation, at which time Bruenn pulled the weapons from his car, police said.

No further arrests are expected in the case. The investigation has been closed, police said.
