Southington Man Charged in Series of Sexual Assaults

Police said Roland Garneau was allegedly involved in a series of sexual assault over a two-week period against a woman he was living with.

A Southington man is facing numerous charges including sexual assault after he was allegedly involved in a series of incidents with a woman he lived with over a two-week period, according to police.

Southington police took Roland Garneau, of 1845 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, into custody on unrelated charges Monday and realized he was wanted in connection with a series of incidents that took place between June 22 and July 6.

Garneau, 50, is facing charges of first-degree sexual assault, sexual assault against a spouse or in a cohabiting relationship, unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault. He was held on a $250,000 bond and arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on Tuesday.

“The above incident took place over a two-week period on or about June 22, 2013 until July 6, 2013.  No other details are being released due to the fact that the arrest warrant has been sealed by Bristol Superior Court,” police said in a press release Tuesday.

Details of the case remain scarce as the warrant has been sealed by court order. The name of the victim and their relationship to Garneau were not released.
