Southington Man Charged in Series of Sexual Assaults

Police said the man had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a Southington minor, among other things, as he was taken into custody on a warrant last week.

Few details are available about one arrest, but police have taken a man into custody that they said was involved in an ongoing series of sexual assault involving a Southington teenager.

Officers last week took Mufail Cani, last known to reside at 29 Darling St. in Southington, into custody on a warrant. He was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court the same day on charges including three counts of second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Court records indicate that the incidents involved one victim, but police and court officials were unable to release further details due to the case being sealed under court warrant.

According to court records, the 20-year-old Southington man has been unable to make bail and remains in state custody in lieu of a $90,000 court-set bond. He is due back in Bristol Superior Court later this month and could present a plea at that time.
