Southington Man Charged in Sexual Assault Case

Police said the 20-year-old man broke into an apartment and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

A Southington man was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court this morning after police said he broke into the home of a local 17-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her.

Police arrested Tarik Aykit, 20, of 2 Water St., on Wednesday morning after obtaining a warrant. Aykit was held on bond and taken to Bristol Superior Court where he was arraigned on charges of first-degree sexual assault, third-degree burglary and disorderly conduct.

Court officials were unable to provide any other details of his appearance. The warrant is sealed under court order because the case involves a minor.

Police said in a press release Wednesday that Aykit had allegedly entered the victim’s apartment earlier this month to commit the sexual assault.

The teenager was known to Aykit, police said. Further details of the case were not immediately released.
