Southington Man Pleads Not Guilty of Teen Sex Assault Charges

The suspect is being held on $850,000 bond set on charges he had sex with a 13-year-old girl on multiple occasions in Southington, Plainville and New Britain.

A Southington man remains in custody after pleading not guilty to numerous sexual assault charges stemming from a sexual relationship he had with a 13-year-old — the daughter of his ex-girlfriend.

According to a report and court records, Luis Maldonado, 32, is facing a total of seven counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and six counts of illegal sexual contact, in connection with a series of incidents that occurred in Plainville, Southington and New Britain during 2013.

The charges are related to what police say was sexual contact with two victims, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old. The incidents were reported to Southington Police in December after the 13-year-old’s mother, who is Maldonado’s ex-girlfriend, said she noticed that he had messaged her daughter, according to a report in The Bristol Press.

According to records on the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, Maldonado was arrested in February by Plainville Police, with more charges lodged by Southington Police in March and and by New Britain Police earlier this month.

During an appearance in state Superior Court in New Britain on June 25, Maldonado pleaded not guilty to the New Britain charges. He has pleaded not guilty to the Southington and Plainville charges. He is being held on a total of $850,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court July 17, according to court records.
