Southington Officer Receives Statewide Safety Award

Officer Thomas Gallo, head of the DARE Program for the Southington Police Department, has been honored for his work in improving safety for children across the community.

On Nov. 15 at the 11th annual Safe Kids Connecticut Injury Prevention Conference, officer Thomas Gallo of the Southington Police Department was honored with the Safe Kids Advocate Award. This award honors those who go above and beyond in the area of child safety.

Gallo, a 22-year member of the PD has been a advocate for child safety for most of his career.  He oversees the departments Child Passenger safety Program which for the past two years has been named best overall in the state by the Connecticut.

Gallo also continues to serve as the coordinator for the town’s drug and education safety programs in the Elementary and middle schools. He also works on a state level to educate fellow officers and first responders in the area of occupant protection.
