Southington Police Blotter: Cracking Down on Cell Phone Users (And More)

The following arrest information was provided by the Southington Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Officers on Monday sat in position to crackdown on illegal use of cell phones while driving, catching and giving tickets to 11 residents who were using their phones will driving. The department also caught one individual in connection with a DUI case and reported a larceny arrest from before the weekend. Take a look at the latest arrest logs.

The Southington Police Department reported the following arrests:

May 2


Mary A. Dawson, 46, of 543 Jarvis St. in Cheshire, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, May 2.

May 6

Marita Shurkus, 45, of 157 Burritt St. in Plantsville, was charged with criminal attempt to commit risk of injury and driving under the influence, May 6.

Other stats from reported traffic stops and incidents:

  • Eleven (11) people were cited with using a cell phone while driving.
  • Three people were cited with operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration.
  • Two people were cited with operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
  • One person was cited with failure to insure motor vehicle.
  • One person was cited with improper use of registration.
  • One person was cited with failure to carry insurance card.
  • One person was cited with pedestrian using a highway in a hazardous manner.
