Southington Police Seek Help in Locating Suspect in Armed Robbery

Detectives are searching for the suspect in an armed robbery at the Wineland Discount Liquors store on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and they are now turning to the public for assistance.

Southington police said a woman robbed the store, located at 1543 Meriden-Waterbury Road, at gunpoint just before 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

“At that time a white female entered the store with a red and blue scarf covering her hands,” Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said.

“The female had both hands in front of her body as if she was holding a gun and she demanded cash from the clerk.  The store clerk removed cash from the register and placed it on the counter. The female took the cash and left the store.”

The suspect is described as a light-skinned female, approximately 35 to 40 years old. She stands around five feet, five inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds.

She was wearing a red and blue scarf over her head, which covered only her hair not her face, police said.

Prior to the robbery the suspect approached the store on foot from an easterly direction and when she exited the store, she also headed in an easterly direction on Meriden Waterbury Road. A K-9 search of the area was unsuccessful.

Dobratz said about $350 in cash was taken during the robbery.
