Southington Police Seeking Suspects in Superfund Site Break-In
Southington police said suspects left empty handed after an attempted overnight burglary outside the Superfund site on Lazy Lane, but caused $10,000 in damage during the incident.
Detectives and officers were unable to locate two suspects believed to have been involved in an attempted theft at the Superfund site on Lazy Lane during the early morning hours Tuesday.
Police set a perimeter around the area, extending from the site to the Stop and Shop store on North Main Street, residents reported, though a K9 track effort was unable to catch the culprits, Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said.
"Officers responded around 2 a.m. with reports of an activated alarm, three alarms in all," Dobratz said. "They arrived to find a hole in the fence and copper roles that were taken from their original location, but left behind in the process after the suspects apparently fled."
The site, located across from the Southington Police Station, is currently in use as part of an environmental cleanup. Terra Therm, the company running the site, has secured the location heavily after previous problems. Police said copper has been stolen from the location in the past.
Despite a track, police have not released details of the suspect descriptions. They were unable to comment further on the case.
